Chak de!! India

Although going by the common convention for a civil day it was Independence day yesterday, but I would prefer the more generic definition for civil day(starts at dawn and ends accordingly) this time, considering it to be the 60th Independence day of India.

It is during this time that people, for once in a year, think about their country(atleast I suppose so) and again forget about it the very next day. Our definitions of patriotism have changed. We no longer attend flag hoisting ceremonies and listen to speech about the respected freedom fighters. We feel patriotic by watching patriotic movies and attend the flag hoisting only if laddu-factor appeals to us. We remember 15th August for it is a national holiday. However, on the positive side, atleast we remember this… We know that 15th August is a day of national significance and some break through related to freedom struggle happened on this date…We have a flag as well and is hoisted on this date of the calendar.

I am no different and I accept that. Even if I look at today’s activities… I was sleeping at the time the flag was being hoisted… I dont even know who hoisted it in the college, I just suppose it must have been the Director…then I was playing Diablo-II before leaving for the movie- Chak De India… Not to forget Happy Independence Day status message on GTalk…
This all looked fine then but retrospection gives a kind of guilt feeling that I had spared not even a fraction of a second thinking about the great freedom fighters who made this happen. And if this is my case, I believe it must have been same/similar for a lot many people.

If this is the case with so called Learned people of this country, only God knows where the country might be heading and still we do not hesitate saying “Chak De!! India

~~Happy Independence Day~~

Consultancy- The Rosy picture

Just a few days back..ppl from a leading consuting co.(name removed for certain reasons) were there on the campus for an informal talk with the students and they painted a very beautiful picture…No, not on canvas, not on the white or the green boards but on everyone’s mind.

They made everyone feel that traveling is real fun, seeing your ideas being implemented is real fun. When airport staff know you by name and when they confirm your seats without checking your tickets..This is real fun.

You get to get a lot of experience in a lot of areas(both verticals and horizontals) within a very short span of time (often referred to as Dog’s Life), which essentially creates a lot more options(Exit strategies) for you. A person may get into a PE firm, start his entrepreneurial stint or may continue to retire as a Partner.
You get to visit a lot of places since traveling is just another part of the job.
You work with CXOs and help them find out and remove their business problems and what gives immense pleasure is to see your ideas being implemented. Lets say, You suggested some particular design for some store to increase the revenues and when you visit the store next time you find it there..wow!! sounds great. Indeed it is.
Sometimes you not only suggest but also get a chance to help the organisation implement it.

Wow all this sounds so great but somehow I cant help recalling words from Mahesh Murthy: “If consultants had any solutions, they would have been in the business(as employer not employee)”
In fact, I even considered posing the question during the ‘informal talk’ but then decided not to. to avoid a fine penalty if somehow they took it otherwise [:P].

~No Objections Meant but if I tell you time by looking your watch and still get paid for it, am I a Consultant?

The post is dedicated to all the बेवडा s

World War..Lets fight it!!! (Censored version)

So finally World War has begun. Already into its second day. Half of the Junta is finding it hard to stand. People havent slept for days now..earlier due to the midterm examinations and now being into World War, it doesnt look like a good idea to give up the fronts.

The Greeks are fighting Spartans and Nazis.
To those who are clueless of this all, World War is 3 day war between the 3 hostels @ IIM-C (OH, WH(Tagore nd Annexe), NH). Each hostel picks up a theme and here we are, the Greeks. Each hostel raids other two to take possession of their territory and to capture the CnC of others. (Each hostel has a CnC (Commander in Chief), who is the king for these 3 days and a PubC(Publicity Chief), who handles the strategy and publicity part)

Yesterday witnessed the Greeks, the Spartans and the Nazis introduce their CnCs which followed capturing advertising spots in the hostels, in which the hostel acquiring more and prominent spots score high. The intro part took place from 1:00 AM to 2:15 AM followed by the fight for the spots from 3:00 AM till the time judges come(around 6:00 AM) and then the posters and banners need to be put in these places till 9:00 AM. The posters were obviously nothing else but projecting superiority of hostel over other 2, so included abuse for other hostels, for their themes and definitely projecting ours.
This followed raids by hostels to capture CnC of other hostels and a Tyre raid, in which people dig out tyre(symbolic of treasure for this event) from other hostel’s territory. The raids go on for next 2 days.
And the hostel who scores max in cumulative of these is declared winner and the War comes to an end. As in original World War, people suffer casualties/injuries during the War.

As it is said: It is all about perseverance and the one who stands till the end wins.

So far the Greeks have maintained a lead. Lets see if they(we) can convert it into a Victory.

Sleep is a luxury

This happens to all but the point is how often does it happen?? Sometimes you have something important to do. Sometimes you do it just like that. But when it is being forced upon you, it is then that you realise how important sleep is.
You know light is good coz u have seen dark. You value water because you feel thirst. Evenings are cool coz the scorching sun makes u sweat in the afternoon. …
It is not difficult to understand why I came up with this weird looking topic for this post. With the rigour in last few days(midterm week), I realise how much valuable sleep is. You realise the importance if you cannot afford to sleep enough for 5 days in succession.

Believe me, Sleep is a Luxury!!!
