Time Management

Found this article on the Blue Board…nice read

An expert in time management was speaking to a group of business students and, to drive home a point, used an illustration those students will never forget. As he stood in front of the group of high-powered overachievers he said, “Okay, time for a quiz” and he pulled out a one-gallon, mason jar and set it on the table in front of him. He also produced about a dozen fist-sized rocks and carefully placed them, one at a time, into the jar.

When the jar was filled to the top and no more rocks would fit inside, he asked, “Is this jar full?”
Everyone in the class yelled, “Yes.”
The time management expert replied, “Really?”

He reached under the table and pulled out a bucket of gravel. He dumped some gravel in and shook the jar causing pieces of gravel to work themselves down into the spaces between the big rocks. He then asked the group once more, “Is the jar full?”
By this time the class was on to him. “Probably not,” one of them answered.

“Good!” he replied. He reached under the table and brought out a bucket of sand. He started dumping the sand in the jar and it went into all of the spaces left between the rocks and the gravel. Once more he asked the question, “Is this jar full?”
“No!” the class shouted.

Once again he said, “Good.” Then he grabbed a pitcher of water and began to pour it in until the jar was filled to the brim. Then he looked at the class and asked, “What is the point of this illustration?”

One eager beaver raised his hand and said, “The point is, no matter how full your schedule is, if you try really hard you can always fit some more things in it!”

“No,” the speaker replied, that’s not the point. The truth this illustration teaches us is: If you don’t put the big rocks in first, you’ll never get them in at all.

Decide what are the BIG ROCKS in your life and remember to put these BIG ROCKS in first or you’ll never get them all. So whenever you are reflecting on this short story, just ask yourself: What are the ‘Big Rocks’ in my life? and try fitting them in the jar of your TIME.

Why dropouts are successful??

Some say it is a mere coincidence. Not many appreciate the close relation between the two.
At least from Indian perspective(Generally, I dont like to generalise but I think it holds true here), dropping out signifies failure and the likes of Bill Gates, Steve Jobs etc. are considered to be mere exceptions. You can find a list of such people here.

Having thought over it for sometime now, I think it is nothing but a causal relationship.

Have you ever wondered – Why did these people drop out?
Listen to Steve Jobs saying it himself

After six months, I couldn’t see the value in it. I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life and no idea how college was going to help me figure it out. And here I was spending all of the money my parents had saved their entire life. So I decided to drop out and trust that it would all work out OK.

Gates although gives due credit to his stay at Harvard but dropped out to see his plan get into action.

Steve Woznaik also states similar reasons.
….

So it is apparent that these people dropped out for they could not see value in the educational system or the educational system could not fit into their action of plan.

Why do things where you cant find value-add? Why do all of it just for the sake of doing?
It is difficult to understand it unless you experience it yourself. Read this for a counter view.

Apparently I don’t find value in the educational system these days and I am really thankful of the education system to make me understand all this through hands-on experience.

The goal is not to get out of the prison, but to get out in a way that enables you to stay out. Be patient. Think ahead. Getting free is not like walking through a magic doorway — it’s like growing a fruit tree. Source

PS: 1. I am not drawing comparisons with these greats but just found something I have in common with them.
2. Do not consider it as looking down upon our educational system, it is just my individual perspective. In short, Do not generalise.

The Much Awaited!!

DO WE REALLY NEED A REASON TO CELEBRATE!!

Day4: Washerman comes and tells that he returns back clothes in 7 days.
Practical observation: He returns back in 10+ days.

The group of managers thought of buying a washing machine but hey, all are managers so who will do it!!! And the managers planned and planned. They planned for around 2 months, while finding alternatives to get their work done. Finally after 2 months, one of them went to the shop and ordered a washing machine without even looking at it. Just looked at the prices and ordered least priced one in the shop, which turned out to be an LG-SemiAutomatic Power Saver model priced at INR 5800. He did not even check the available colours etc. and had to be told what colour it is after it had been delivered in the hostel. Nonetheless, thankfully he ordered one.

And now this definitely called for some celebrations..
So check this out and look at the enthu in ppl…

Some more videos to be uploaded..
